tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, demeclocycline, any other medications, sulfites, or any of the ingredients in doxycycline capsules, extended-release capsules, tablets, extended-release tablets, or suspension. Ask your pharmacist for a list of the ingredients.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: acitretin (Soriatane); anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven); barbiturates such as butabarbital (Butisol), phenobarbital, and secobarbital (Seconal); bismuth subsalicylate; carbamazepine (Epitol, Tegretol, others); isotretinoin (Absorica, Amnesteem, Clavaris, Myorisan, Zenatane); penicillin; phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek); and proton pump inhibitors such as dexlansoprazole (Dexilant), esomeprazole (Nexium, in Vimovo), lansoprazole (Prevacid, in Prevpac), omeprazole (Prilosec, in Yosprala, Zegerid), pantoprazole (Protonix), and rabeprazole (Aciphex). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
be aware that antacids containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium, calcium supplements, iron products, and laxatives containing magnesium interfere with doxycycline, making it less effective. Take doxycycline 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking antacids, calcium supplements, and laxatives containing magnesium. Take doxycycline 2 hours before or 4 hours after iron preparations and vitamin products that contain iron.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had lupus (condition in which the immune system attacks many tissues and organs including the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys), intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri; high pressure in the skull that may cause headaches, blurry or double vision, vision loss, and other symptoms), a yeast infection in your mouth or vagina, surgery on your stomach, asthma, or kidney or liver disease.
you should know that doxycycline may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives (birth control pills, patches, rings, or injections). Talk to your doctor about using another form of birth control.
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking doxycycline, call your doctor immediately. Doxycycline can harm the fetus.
plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and to wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Doxycycline may make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Tell your doctor right away if you get a sunburn.
you should know that when doxycycline is used during pregnancy or in babies or children up to 8 years of age, it can cause the teeth to become permanently stained. Doxycycline should not be used in children under 8 years of age except for inhalational anthrax, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, or if your doctor decides it is needed.
HOW TO USE THIS TABLET: Take 1 g doxycycline capsules, delayed-release tablet, with your doctor's permission. Measure the capsule contents thoroughly. Dissolve the capsule with a glass of water and swallow the whole, without crushing or chewing. Do not use capsules crushed or chewed, because they can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset. This medicine may be taken with or without food.
This medicine may be taken only when advised by your doctor. Do not take it less than 6 hours before or 6 hours after any meal containing doxycycline.
Objective:To investigate the effect of a new Doxycycline capsule and a novel Doxycycline capsule plus an anti-inflammatory (i.e. a tetracycline and a tetracycline-containing antibiotic) on the immune system in patients with acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Methods:We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Patients with COPD were enrolled in the study after a course of 2 days of standard care in a tertiary care center at University of Pennsylvania (UPA) (N=18). Patients were enrolled at the start of the trial, during the first week, and then every 4 weeks for 2-5 days after the initiation of treatment. Patients were randomized to receive a Doxycycline capsule or a Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule for 8 weeks, or to a placebo capsule for the next 4 weeks. Patients who took a placebo capsule were excluded from the study. Patients who were unable to take a Doxycycline capsule or a Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule were also excluded from the study.
Results:The median follow-up time was 18.8 months (range: 4-28 months). The median number of events (95% CI) was 5 (6-8). The most frequent adverse events (n=5) were nausea (7.7%), and headache (2.6%).
Conclusion:In patients with COPD, a Doxycycline capsule and a Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule significantly reduced the incidence of acute exacerbations compared with a placebo capsule. The most common adverse events were nausea and vomiting (7.7% and 2.6%, respectively).
A Doxycycline capsule and a Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule are associated with a reduced incidence of acute exacerbations of COPD.Key words:Doxycycline capsule, Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule, Doxycycline capsule
The efficacy of Doxycycline in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been demonstrated with either a Doxycycline capsule or a Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule (N=18).
Nausea is a common gastrointestinal adverse event associated with doxycycline. However, it has been reported that nausea may be a consequence of its interaction with other drugs or a combination of drugs. For example, nausea associated with other drugs may have a similar effect on the efficacy of Doxycycline, or may be a side effect of Doxycycline alone (e.g., for patients with inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis).
Introduction:Acute exacerbations of COPD often result from a combination of two or more chronic diseases. Doxycycline is an antibiotic that is commonly used to treat these conditions, but it is important to note that this drug should only be used for a short period as determined by the physician. Doxycycline, which is a tetracycline antibiotic, has been shown to have a moderate, reversible, and reversible effect on the immune system. In clinical trials, Doxycycline has been shown to have the best anti-inflammatory activity and may be considered a useful treatment for acute exacerbations of COPD, particularly when the cause of the disease is unknown.
The use of an anti-inflammatory drug in patients with COPD has been reported to be effective in many cases. However, it is important to note that this is not an FDA-approved indication, and there are no FDA-approved indications for the use of anti-inflammatory drugs in COPD. The use of anti-inflammatory drugs in patients with COPD is not FDA-approved.
The current study was designed to determine whether a novel Doxycycline capsule and a novel Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule in patients with acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) showed the benefits of reducing the incidence of acute exacerbations of COPD. This study was an open-label, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, phase I clinical trial conducted at the University of Pennsylvania (UPA). The primary objective of this study was to determine whether Doxycycline capsule and Doxycycline capsule plus a placebo capsule (N=18) are associated with a reduced incidence of acute exacerbations of COPD.
Active Ingredients:Each tablet contains 100mg of doxycycline (as doxycycline monohydrate).
